I’m the person behind As It Was Photography, based in Cape Town, South Africa.

I’m a photographer, a coffee enthusiast, a cat person, and someone who genuinely loves meeting people. I get to hear your stories, step into some of the most meaningful days of your lives, and make photos you can come back to long after the day has passed. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of that.

I photograph weddings, couples, families, portraits and the occasions in between — for people who would rather remember how something felt than have every moment perfectly posed.

My approach is documentary-inspired, with a little direction when you need it and plenty of room for things to happen naturally. I’m looking for the obvious moments, of course, but also everything happening around them: the glance across the room, the hand on your shoulder, the laugh you didn’t expect, the small details you were too busy living to notice.

Capturing the moments you often miss, but never want to forget.

That’s really what it comes down to for me. Photographs that don’t just show you what happened, but bring you back to how it felt to be there.

I’m based in Cape Town and photograph throughout Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschhoek and the greater Western Cape — and I’m always happy to travel wherever the story takes me.
